Scientist Lecture: Tropical Rainforests
Join us as we kick off our 2017-28 Scientist Lecture Series with a talk by Tom Croat, PhD, the Schulze Curator of Botany Research at the Missouri Botanical Garden, whose research focuses on the systematics, floristics and ecology of the family Araceae (philodendron family). His talk will concern tropical rainforests--their complexities and their tragic demise.
Despite the great horticultural interest in the philodendron family and its importance as a major component of many tropical forests, the taxonomy of Araceae is extremely poorly known and the family still contains a high proportion of undescribed species. His work has led to the recognition of new species.
This Scientist Lecture is being co-sponsored by the Rainforest Committee of the Northeast Ohio Sierra Club.
