Cherry Blossom Picnics
Gather with friends and family in the museum’s Fine Arts Garden to appreciate the fleeting, stunning beauty of Japan’s unofficial flower, the cherry blossom. 🌸
In Japan, cherry blossom viewing (o-hanami) often involves picnicking beneath the trees to celebrate the start of spring. Come and hanami however you’d like! Plan a picnic or potluck or purchase sushi and snacks on-site. Arrive at the Fine Arts Garden early to claim a coveted picnic spot and enjoy music, performances, art activities, tours, and more. Picnickers wearing pink or white will be given free admission to the exhibition "Shinto: Discovery of the Divine in Japanese Art."
On view in the Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation Exhibition Hall from April 9 to June 30, this exhibition introduces works from the 10th to the 19th century and treasures from shrines and temples never before seen outside Japan.
Please note: Coolers and outside food are not permitted inside the museum. In the event of rain, only indoor activities will proceed as planned.
