With experience comes knowledge, especially in the professional arena. At WCS, we believe our members and partners have a wellspring of experience and knowledge to bring to the table. That’s why the WCS Career Development Committee is hosting a speed mentorship event on August 6th, 2020 via Zoom, to connect experienced mentors with those looking for insight, knowledge and growth opportunities in these unpredictable times.

What is virtual mentorship?

We’re taking the best morsels from our regular mentorship program and bringing it online. The goal of our premier event is to create a space where mentees can explore self-efficacy and career development while providing quick-hit information on networking, relationship-building and critical hard/soft skills in both on and offline lives.

Mentors attending will have five or more years of experience in their field.

What is the focus of this event?

This event will focus on topics ranging from planning a career growth trajectory, keeping a healthy work-life balance, enhancing technical skills, and networking efficiently.

This event is not intended to be a job fair and the mentors are not recruiters. We ask that participants respect mentors by not aggressively asking about employment opportunities.

How will it work?

In your assigned industry*, 4-6 attendees will be placed in a Zoom breakout room and matched with a mentor in their selected industry. After 20 minutes, groups rotate to a different breakout room. With three total breakout groups, attendees benefit from meeting with 3 mentors and getting to know other attendees at a deeper level.

*When registering for the event, participants will select two preferred industries.

Breakout rooms will be pre-assigned with the following themes (note that we will do our best to match you with your selected industry):

• Transportation
• Energy/Utility
• Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
• Entrepreneurship
• Non-industry specific
