Seed School in a Day
Seed saving is an ancient tradition going back nearly 12,000 years. This back-and-forth dance with the plants has transformed the human race and is a fundamental part of our story as a species. Through the careful techniques of growing, selecting, and replanting seeds from the best plants each season, ancient farmers and gardeners created an incredible diversity of crop varieties that helped them adapt to changing geographic and climatic conditions.
In our modern times, this timeless tradition has fallen out of common practice and much of the abundant seed diversity we once stewarded has all but disappeared. 'Seed School in a Day' is a pioneering one-day course that helps to shape the local seed and food movements far and wide. Advance your seed saving knowledge through an engaging, experiential, hands-on educational workshop rooted in traditional practices. In partnership with Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance and Countryside, the Cleveland Seed Bank brings you the following course topics:
Modules
1. Selection and Genetics
2. Biology and Structure
3. Harvesting, Processing, and Storage
4. Wild Seeds
5. History, Industry, Patents
6. Pollination and Breeding
7. Big Picture and the Spirit of Seeds
