Learn Backyard Composting 101 (Free Seminar)

Learn Backyard Composting 101 at Upcoming Free Seminars Scheduled Throughout Cuyahoga County.

Composting-made-easy is the theme of the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District's 2018 composting seminars and bin sales taking place at local municipalities throughout the spring and summer.

The informative seminars are designed to teach residents how to properly compost yard waste and food scraps in their backyards while offering low-cost compost bins for sale. Backyard composting helps reduce the amount of organic waste sent to landfills while creating a healthy soil additive that can be used in gardens and landscapes.

    About:

Compost seminars are open to all county residents and registration is required.

    To register for a seminar visit http://www.cuyahogarecycles.org/compost_workshops_and_bins or call (216) 443-3731 ☎.

What is compost? Compost consists of organic materials derived from plants and some animal material that has been decomposed largely through aerobic decomposition (with oxygen). The process of composting is simple and is practiced by individuals in their homes, farmers on their land and by industries and cities through contracts with composting businesses.

Compost is rich in nutrients. It is used in gardens, landscaping, horticulture and agriculture. The compost itself is beneficial for the land in many ways, including as a soil conditioner, a fertilizer to add vital humus or humic acids, and as a natural pesticide for soil. In ecosystems, compost is useful for erosion control, land and stream reclamation and wetland construction.

The following items are available for purchase by cash or check only:

    Wishing Well Composter - $50.00
Ultimate Dirt Machine Digester - $50.00
Yard Butler (aeration tool) - $20.00
