Cuyahoga50 Public Float & Historic Photo Op
Join us at Rivergate Park on June 22nd to commemorate the infamous Cuyahoga River fire and have a chance to make Cleveland history!
Starting at noon (12:00pm) on the 22nd, rowers, kayakers, and stand up paddle boarders will join participants from Blazing Paddles and the Cleveland Rowing Foundation's Summer Rowing League Regatta to take over a section of the Cuyahoga River near Merwin's Wharf/Rivergate Park. At 1:00pm, we will be taking an aerial photo of the activity and life on the water, to replace the historic image of the Cuyahoga River fire.
Experienced rowers, kayakers, and paddlers are invited to bring their vessels to Rivergate Park starting at 10:00am on June 22nd. Boats and boards will begin launching at 12:00pm from the Cleveland Rowing Foundation's boat launch (note: a waiver is required to use CRF's boat launch and participate in the Float). Floaters will gather on the river for a historic photo at 1:00pm.
The Cuyahoga50 Public Float is a free event open to rowers and paddlers of all kinds. Participants are required to bring their own vessels and we will have volunteers on site to help with loading/unloading vehicles and launching and recoverying vessels from the water.
All Float participants will need to complete a waiver. Anyone under the age of 18 will be required to have a parent/guardian signature. Only approved, water-safe vessels will be permitted, including canoes, kayaks, and standup paddle boards. For safety reasons, innertubes, rafts, and other similar floatation devices will not be permitted to participate in the Cuyahoga50 Public Float.
To ensure the safety of everyone on the water, we are asking that only experienced rowers/paddlers participate in the float. All other participants will have the opportunity to view the float and take photos from Rivergate Park.
