The Center for Neighborhood Technology’s (CNT) Housing and Transportation (H+T®) Affordability Index considers both the cost of housing and transportation when looking at the issue of affordability. Dividing these costs by the representative income illustrates the cost burden of housing and transportation expenses placed on a typical household. CNT’s methodology defines affordability as combined housing and transportation costs that consume no more than 45% of household income.
