Air Quality Awareness Week will be celebrated nationally from Monday, May 2, 2022 through Friday, May 6, 2002. In recognition of this important topic, Cleveland Department of Public Health - Division of Air Quality will host "Change is in the Air: A Community Conversation." The primary topics include Air Quality, Asthma, Environmental Justice and Your Health, and Community Air Monitoring.

The event will address the relationship between local air pollution and asthma prevalence throughout the City of Cleveland. This Community Conversation is intended for all members of the community with an interest in air pollution, environmental justice and/or asthma including patients and their family members and caregivers; school administrators, teachers and school nurses, and community leaders. Medical professionals in family practice, internal medicine, pulmonologists, and other stakeholders with an interest in these topics are welcomed to attend.

The goal of this community conversation is to listen to those impacted by asthma and environmental justice issues. What is the state of asthma in the City of Cleveland? How are medical institutions addressing these issues? How do asthma patients navigate the health care system and receive the quality of care necessary to control asthma flare-ups? What are areas that healthcare professionals can improve upon to improve quality of care? Are there ways for citizens to become actively involved in air monitoring projects?

Panelists include participants from the healthcare industry, environmental justice community, and individuals involved in citizen science and community air monitoring projects.
