Confronting Poverty Among College Students - Third Annual Conference
Hosted by the Institute of Poverty and Urban Education at Cuyahoga Community College.
The aim for this year’s conference is to generate a space for discussion and dialogue regarding Ohio college students who are derailed by poverty or near-poverty. We hope these conversations will help more college students realize their ambitions, by providing information and resources which will enable colleges in our region to better support their students.
The conference includes breakout sessions regarding academic research and interventions to help under-resourced students navigate college, achieve their educational goals and move out of poverty. Additionally, the conference includes workshops on how to support these students in a college setting.
- Kickoff Speaker: Nitreata Seals, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs at LaGuardia Community College.
- Keynote Speaker: Cia Verschelden, Ed.D., Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs at City Colleges of Chicago, Malcom X Campus, and author of Bandwidth Recovery: Helping Students Reclaim Cognitive Resources Lost to Poverty, Racism and Social Marginalization
