9to5: The Story of Movement is the latest film from Academy Award-winning documentary filmmakers Julia Reichert and Steve Bognar. The film chronicles the previously untold story of the founding of 9to5, an organization started by a group of secretaries in Boston in 1972 in response to rampant discrimination, unfair pay, lack of upward mobility, and sexual harassment in the workplace.

Their ideas spread rapidly − in Cleveland, Cincinnati, San Francisco and dozens of other cities − eventually leading to a nationwide effort at the intersection of the women’s movement and the labor movement, and serving as inspiration for both the 1980 film starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton and the hit song "9to5."

Today, as America grapples with deep economic, racial, and gender inequality, the stories and strategies of these women still resonate − and continue to inform current frontline efforts. Join us as Reichert and female labor leaders connect the past to the present, discussing how women changed the labor movement and examine the work still left to be done.
