The Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities' advocacy group called SOUP, the Stir One Up Program, is partnering with the NE Ohio Regional Sewer District to collect plastic grocery bags to both benefit the environment AND help the homeless. Both agencies are collecting plastic bags at their locations and the bags are cut into strips and crocheted into mats that homeless people can utilize. For more information, please feel free to contact Amy Smith, Advocacy and Community Outreach Coordinator at the Cuyahoga County BDD at

  • We continue to collect a LOT of plastic bags at both agencies. The partnership between CCBDD and NEORSD continues to grow and is very positive. Feel free to contact Amy Smith at CCBDD with any questions about the project and/or the SOUP group.
  • How successful has this project been?
  • Come to the Sewer District’s Open House on September 16th and exchange your plastic grocery bag for a heavy-duty reusable grocery tote, courtesy of SOUP and NEORSD. The Open House hours are 9A-4P at 4747 East 49th Street in Cuyahoga Heights. More information is at Your Sewer District… keeping our Great Lake great!
