Enjoy tales from the early days of Cleveland while learning about Moses Cleaveland, the Cuyahoga River, beautiful bridges, the historic B&O Rail Station and plans for a 25-acre park and the extension of the Towpath Trail. Be sure to bring your camera for some stunning photo opportunities. Mayor Carl Stokes may share some background on his life and the Clean Water Act, which developed following the 1969 Cuyahoga River Fire.  Mary Kelley may also share stories of her husband, Alfred Kelley, the father of the Ohio & Erie Canal, during your tour.

 

This program is presented as part of Stokes: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future, a yearlong, community-wide celebration of the election of Carl B. Stokes as Mayor of Cleveland and the career of Congressman Louis Stokes. You can find out more information at www.stokes50cle.com.

 

Mayor Stokes will be performing the following dates during the 2017 tour season: June 25, July 9July 16July 30August 20September 10, and September 17th.

 

Public Transportation and bikeways connect and surround downtown, however if you’re driving – suggested street parking is located near the Flat Iron Cafe along Center Street or Merwin Avenue.  Meters are free on weekends.   There is also a small parking lot located across from the starting location.

 

On select Canal Basin Park tours, the Lorenzo Carter Cabin will also be open for attendees to visit at the end of the tour.
