There’s the famous feminist slogan that woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle. But maybe a woman needs a bicycle like a fish needs a man (we don’t even know what that means).
In a special Women’s History Month Presentation in the Rocky River Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks, historical interpreter Jen Brumfield will discuss “Women on Wheels.” It is now accepted that the widespread popularity of bicycling in the late 19th/early 20th century had significant appeal on early feminism. Brumfeld will talk about cycling giving women easy transportation and mobility, as well as liberating them from such restricting garb as whalebone corsets and hoop skirts.
Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. Parking is also free; extra credit for getting to the Nature Center by bike.
